Personalized Skin Care Regimen

Building a Personalized Skin Care Regimen

-The best way to keep your facial skin happy and healthy is to asses your skin and create a regimen that is specific to your chemistry.
-This is very easy to do and the assessment can be done absolutely FREE OF CHARGE in the comforts of your home.
-Find a mirror and study your skin while you go through these steps step that will help you understand your skin.

Understanding Your Skin
-Drink more water. As cliche as this sounds, "up to 60% of your body is made up of water" as quoted in http://water.usgs.gov/edu/propertyyou.html.
[Read that short article to help you understand that staying hydrated is what keeps your body going and anything unhealthy that is going on in your body (lack of adequate hydration, drinking, smoking, lack of nutrition) will show up outside of your body in different ways.]
-Reduce bacteria transfer. Your skin will always have good and bad bacteria on it. However, it is very important to reduce the amount of bad bacteria that you transfer to your skin, especially your face. How do you do that?
     (a) Avoid touching your face without washing your hands. Your hands harbor harmful bacteria because you touch various bacteria pools all throughout the day. (Bacteria pool= Door knobs, steering wheel, handles, light switches, toilet seat etc,.) You catch my drift.
     (b) Clean/change your bed sheets and pillow cases at least once a week. The easiest way to remember to do this is to designate a day for deep cleaning and have checklist of objets to disinfect and clean. Here are some suggestions: clean/disinfect makeup brushes, clean/disinfect hair tools, disinfect doorknobs, light switches, handles, change sheets.
     (c) Use disposable facial cloths. Try not to use washcloths on your face. Try using disposable facial cloths or cotton pads from your local drug store. They run about $1.00 USD per pack of 50 pads/cloth.
Building the regimen
"what is my skin type?"
-Knowing you skin type is the heart of the skin care regimen. Once you know your skin type there are various skin care systems out there to help treat your skin type.
-What is a skin type? There are 4 main characteristics of skin types. Regardless of skin color, they all apply.

1. Dry Skin

This is a skin CONDITION and should be treated as such. Moisturizing skin products will help conceal the symptoms while you correct the condition from within. Your skin is itchy, scaly, and dehydrated. Probably from a lack of hydration. Drink eight, 8-ounce glasses of water a day. Which, essentially, is 2 liters or half a gallon of water a day. So, an easy way to accomplish this is to fill a clean, empty 2-liter soda bottle with water and drink it gradually all day.  You should notice a difference in your skin, hair, nails and overall health within weeks. Also, Use moisturizing skin care products. Try moisturizing face masks at night.
2. Oily Skin

If you have acne, you most likely have oily skin. This is what is probably causing your acne. However, some acne is hereditary, etc,. If you acne is severe, seek professional medical advice. Oily skin is also a condition and can also be corrected through diet. Try consuming less fatty, oily foods and more water. Search on google for a list of common foods that contain fat and oils. I know a very common one. THOSE FRIED, JUICY BURGERS and FRIES. Yes, fast food will damage your skin. In addition to adjusting your diet, try concealing the symptoms and reducing acne with skin care systems for  oily skin and acne prone skin try alternating days and try using the system at night. Night time is when they body repairs itself. Try clay masks at night.
3. Combination

Combination skin is actually pretty common. It is a mix of oily and dry skin. For some people, a mix of normal skin and dry/oily. Which can be fixed through diet, as well. A balance of both diets for oily and dry skin. The symptoms can most effectively be treated through alternating face masks, at night. Also, whatever the majority of you skin is. Treat it as such. If your skin is 80% oily. Treat it for oily skin. If it is 50% oily treat it for oily skin but use a moisturizer that is not too heavy and absorbs in you skin.
4. Sensitive

If you have sensitive skin, you know you have it because you can't use most products without suffering from irritation. Seek professional, medical advice and rule out you allergens.  You must use botanical/natural products if you have sensitive skin. and check all products for your allergens. You MUST wear sunscreen daily. Try finding a moisturizer with SPF. UV rays can worsen the condition.

*Disclaimer: Everyone is unique. Before we move forward in these steps, it is important to rule out any skin conditions that you may need to seek professional, medical advice for. I am not a doctor.
